How Max’s life inspires our work at Friends of Max and how his legacy impacts Simran’s daily work as a FOM patient advocate?

“Max’s life and his journey with CML are a powerful reminder that a diagnosis does not define a person’s dreams, identity, or future. His courage in facing the challenges of living with CML, and the hope he continues to inspire in countless lives, form the very foundation of what Friends of Max stands for. His story reminds us that beyond medicines and treatment, patients need understanding, emotional support, awareness, and a community that stands beside them through every step of their journey.
As a young and upcoming City Chapter Leader, I feel that my role goes beyond spreading awareness. It is about building a community where every patient feels heard, supported, and understood; where no one feels alone after hearing the words “you have cancer.” Max’s journey inspires me to lead with empathy, create meaningful connections, and help patients and their families find the strength and confidence to keep moving forward.
For me, carrying Max’s legacy forward means ensuring that hope reaches every patient, that every voice matters, and that every person living with CML knows they are more than their diagnosis. His life continues to remind us why our work matters and why we must keep striving for a future where every patient has access to the care, support, and opportunities they deserve.
