As shared by Aditya Sharma, a dedicated core team member of the Friends of Max (FOM) Delhi Chapter, who actively participates in almost every patient meeting and Chai for Cancer Adda organised across NCR. Having engaged with patients and caregivers over the years, his perspectives matter.

“Attending the recent support group meeting was a valuable reminder that successful cancer management is not just about receiving treatment-it is about staying committed to the treatment journey. The doctors emphasized that patients should never develop a casual attitude towards their disease, even when they start feeling better. Improvement is a result of consistent medication, timely monitoring, and disciplined follow-up, not a reason to become complacent. Every prescribed blood test and molecular monitoring appointment plays a vital role in assessing treatment response and guiding future decisions.
A major focus of the session was Treatment-Free Remission (TFR)-a milestone where eligible patients, under strict medical supervision, may discontinue medication while maintaining regular monitoring. It was clearly explained that TFR is not simply stopping treatment. It is a carefully planned clinical decision based on well-defined medical criteria, sustained treatment response, and the treating physician’s assessment. It should never be pursued based on personal preference or assumptions.
Another key takeaway was the importance of treatment compliance. Missing doses, delaying tests, or altering medication schedules can affect treatment outcomes. The doctors reinforced that medicines work only when taken consistently, and that patients should trust the treatment plan designed by their healthcare team. The message was simple yet powerful: believe in your doctor, follow the prescribed treatment without compromise, never miss scheduled tests, and remain disciplined throughout the journey. These small but consistent actions form the foundation for achieving the best possible outcomes-and, for some patients, may even open the path towards Treatment-Free Remission.
Key message: Stay compliant, stay informed, trust your doctor, and never let comfort turn into complacency. Discipline today builds hope for tomorrow.”
