“A problem well stated is a problem half solved.”
The grim reality is that India’s young population brings with it unique challenges. “Nearly 15% of cancers in India occur in minors, compared to the global average of 0.5%.”
This was rightly highlighted by Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi, Director, Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer, Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, at the India Oncology Leadership Summit held in Mumbai on 30 January 2026, sponsored by Economic Times Healthworld.
At Friends of Max, we believe that life-limiting and life-altering diseases like cancer must never become a barrier to the dreams and future of affected children and their families. Keeping this at the heart of our work, Project Shiksha supports the schooling needs of pediatric cancer patients and children of cancer patients, ensuring that no parent or child is forced to choose between treatment and education.
On this International Childhood Cancer Day, we celebrate the strength of the 100+ patients supported under Project Shiksha and hope this family only continues to grow stronger and stronger and receives the much needed support it deserves.
