Meet Sandeep Mahil, Friends of Max (FOM) City Chapter Leader from Chandigarh and FOM’s Patient Advocate of the Month for October 2025

A shining example of what patient advocacy truly means- being a beacon of Hope in challenging times
FOM is proud to shine the spotlight on one of our very dedicated and inspiring patient advocates — Sandeep, City Chapter Leader from Chandigarh. His journey embodies the true spirit of hope and service that lies at the heart of the FOM family.
Born and brought up in a close-knit family rooted in compassion and perseverance, Sandeep’s early years were filled with simple joys and valuable life lessons. His upbringing taught him the power of gratitude and the importance of staying hopeful even in challenging times — values that continue to define his approach to advocacy today.
A graduate in Economics (Honours) and an MBA from Punjab University, Sandeep’s education helped him develop discipline and a broader outlook on life. But it is his empathy and humanity that have made him such a valued and respected member of our community.

Sandeep’s association with FOM began in 2009 when he met our Managing Trustee, Viji Venkatesh (fondly known as Amma), during FOM’s patient meeting at PGI in Chandigarh. Deeply touched by her warmth and support, Sandeep joined as a City Chapter Leader and has been an active pillar of FOM ever since.
Over the years, Sandeep has tirelessly contributed to organizing Patient Support Group Meetings, Awareness Sessions and Chai for Cancer Addas — hosting three memorable ones in Chandigarh – 2019, 2023 and most recently in September 2025. It brought together his friends (two of whom were the co-hosts!) family, physicians, making it truly everyone’s Adda. Through these initiatives, he has helped countless patients and caregivers- raising funds and awareness, sharing his personal journey and offering both emotional strength and practical guidance.
One of his most memorable experiences as recalled by him was helping a newly diagnosed patient overcome fear and anxiety through continued conversations and support. Watching that patient regain confidence and smile again remains one of Sandeep’s most cherished moments — a reflection of how empathy and encouragement can truly change lives.
An avid photographer and biker, Sandeep has been cycling since 2017, completed 110 km rides, and participated in major rallies including Desert Storm and Raid de Himalaya and has been to Ladakh more than two dozen times. He was also part of the Formula 1 events held in Noida in 2011 and 2012. And whenever time permits, he also teaches underprivileged children, further extending his spirit of service and compassion to the broader community

He says his family is his strongest support system — standing by him through every phase of his journey with love and patience.
His Advice to CML Patients:
“Never lose hope. The journey may be long and sometimes difficult, but you are not alone. With the right treatment, a strong mind, and the support of organizations like FOM, you can lead a fulfilling life. Believe in yourself and keep moving forward, one day at a time.”
