GLIVEC – A Ray of Hope

in

Brijgopal – Hyderabad, 2011

Hello friends, I am Brijgopal, a business man from Hyderabad.

I was living a healthy and happy life with my family, until diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML), in March 2005. I had visited my family doctor as I had fever and severe weight loss. So, on his advice I went for complete blood picture (CBP) and was shocked to find white blood counts (WBC) about 1.5 lakh.

Then I visited Dr S.V.S. S. Prasad at Apollo Hospital where he performed a bone marrow biopsy and the tests confirmed that I had CML .It was heart breaking news for the family. Everyone was completely shattered. The doctor first advised Hydrea 500mg due to which sometimes I felt like vomiting.

I did not lose hope at all and made up my mind that I have to live for my family and thus my strong will power helped me to overcome all fear in those difficult times. Then, one day Dr. Prasad informed us about a donation programme by Novartis that supplies Glivec tablets . This news came as a new ray of hope in my life and I started taking Glivec from April 27th 2005.

Today life is the same as it was before being diagnosed with CML and it is only because of the efforts of Max Foundation and Novartis. From, the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every person associated with the organisation and would try my best to help them to continue the good work.

Lastly I would like to thank my doctor, my friends of Max Foundation and Viji madam for their great help and support.

Cancer:- People think it is the end, but if we can see a ray of hope, it is just a beginning and life goes on…
