Taking MPN Under Our Wing

Friends of Max, the Support Group Arm of The Max Foundation in India, is pleased to welcome the MPN Patient Support Group & Advocates Network (India) into its framework with immediate effect.

The MPN Patient Support Group & Advocates Network (India) will collaborate with the Leukemia Patient Advocates Network organization, a non-profit legal entity registered in Switzerland.

Param and Viji will be the Friends of Max representatives for the MPN Patient Support Group & Advocates Network (India). As is well known, Friends of Max caters to the special needs of CML and GIST patients in India. Both conditions are rare and require life-long management and monitoring. Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) also comes under the category of Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs).

Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs) are blood cancers that occur when the body makes too many white or red blood cells, or platelets. In 2008, the World Health Organization reclassified them as cancers and renamed them Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (instead of Myeloproliferative Diseases).

The MPN Advocates Network, established to address the needs of MPN patients, aims to build a worldwide network of MPN patient groups and to use that network to improve the lives of MPN patients everywhere.  The committee comprises of patients, care partners and other individuals whose lives have been impacted by Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs).

The objective of the MPN Patient Support Group & Advocates Network – India is to:

  • Act as a representative of MPN Patients from India and align with international MPN patient groups for healthcare, funding, treatment approval and research.
  • Support the creation of MPN patient communities in India
  • Share best practices of support and advocacy activities
  • Share available information on all current treatments, technologies and research results
  • Encourage cooperation between advocates, researchers, clinicians and healthcare organizations

MPN Advocates Network organizes its annual conference MPN Horizons, at which medical and advocacy sessions are presented. It operates purely for the benefit of MPN patients and advocates and acts independently of any other organization or company.

About MPN source www.leukaemia.org.au

Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) are a group of disorders in which the bone marrow stem cells grow and reproduce abnormally. These abnormal cells cannot function properly and can cause serious health problems unless properly treated and controlled. MPNs are chronic diseases that, in most cases, remain stable for many years and progress gradually over time.
