What do you say to the God of Death when he comes knocking on your door?

 ‘NOT TODAY!’

And this is precisely how our indomitable GISTer Rashmi befriended her Cancer after the stunning diagnosis. With Courage and determination.

Since her early years, Rashmi has had a penchant for social activities. In 1989 she along with her friends started a group called ‘Yuva Munch’ which organised blood donation camps, free eye check-ups, distribution of books for competitive exams along with arranging fun activities like poetry slams, elocution, picnics and other social and community based events. As the organising secretary of the group, she met a lot of people who shared their troubles and what gave her happiness was counselling them. A smile on their face always bought a smile on hers.

She was diagnosed with GIST in 2004 but her life was jolted when it relapsed in 2009. Her physician Dr. Asha Kapadia introduced her to The Max Foundation and the magic bullet ‘Glivec’. She is now a devoted FOM City Chapter Leader and a regular and tireless volunteer at our Support Group Meetings and all the Chai for Cancer Addas held in Mumbai. She has been vocal about her disease on both platforms. She is an inspiring and motivating influence to many and that for her is real victory.

Rashmi is a proud Mumbaikar, born and brought up in the city of Bombay. She completed her schooling from Chandulal Nanawati Kanya Vidyamandir and spent her college years at Chetna College, Bandra. She started her career as a Sales Tax Consultant and moved on to social activities. She attributes her fulfilling professional and social life to her very supportive and encouraging family members. Her message to the CML & GIST family is to stay positive and happy. Smiling and making others smile is what life is about.
