Dhrubajyoti Kalita

Our Patient Advocate of the Month – February 2020 is Dhrubajyoti Kalita, a CML patient from Assam. Dhrubajyoti ji studied in B.Borooah College, Guwahati and lives there with his mother, sisters, wife and his 3 & a half year old daughter. His wife, a breast cancer patient herself, is receiving treatment at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai.

Dhrubajyoti ji was a volunteer at Assam Bhawan Mumbai – a non-profit organization that helps cancer patients by providing accommodation, travel to hospital, food and other resources, from 2008 to 2013. However, he had to return to Guwahati due to a personal problem. He is currently involved with the Deepsikha Foundation – a trust for cancer care that supports patients in need.

As a Friends of Max City Chapter Leader from Assam, Dhrubajyoti ji offers mental health support to newly diagnosed patients, helping them to cope with their diagnosis by sharing his story and offering courage in the face of fear.

He inspires fellow cancer patients in the words: “Don’t lose hope; as I have completed 20 years of friendship with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia with the great support and help of The Max Foundation, Mumbai. The Max Foundation and Amma are my lifelines.”

He also shared a quote –

“Life is like a mirror. It reflects back what you do. So do the best and get back the best!”
