FOM Volunteer of the month (Dec 2018) – Sandeep Mahil
“We all have to condition ourselves to manage our fear. And then life is beautiful”.
These words sum up the attitude and resilience of 43-year old Sandeep Mahil – FOM Volunteer of the Month (Dec 2018).
Tall, strong, self-assured and genial, a post-graduate in business management from University Business School Panjab University in Chandigarh and formerly from Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising Gurgaon, now a resident of Mohali.
Tireless as a FOM resource, Sandeep has been involved with every Patient Support Group Meeting held at the PGI in Chandigarh (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) and every FOM Leadership Summit, including the most recent one in Pune.
It’s part of his nature to pay close attention to every detail and manage vendors very effectively during the Patient Support Group Meets. He has been at the forefront in terms of simplifying advocacy messages for the poor. He also devotes his time for work for Sahayta in Chandigarh, helping patients of PGI (Special Haematology Clinic ) to meet/recover their commuting costs to the hospital. Meeting and knowing Prof. Pankaj Malhotra, Prof. Subash Varma and Dr. Goldman has as he says, been a boon and his personal development.
His coming to terms with his personal crisis is an example for others. His equanimity is evident in his actions and thinking – “All thanks to the Magic Bullet, The Max Foundation India – Amma and her awesome team, and my haemato-oncologist at PGI, Dr. Pankaj Malhotra”, he says with matter-of-fact candidness that masks his inner strength.
An avid biker on his ‘Fat Bike’ (from Bianchi Italy) he has been involved as a Rally Official at various well-known rallies like Raid de Himalaya, Desert Storm and was also a Track Marshall at Formula 1 in 2011. A frequent visitor to picturesque locations like Ladakh, Spiti Valley, Chansal Pass (HP), Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) not surprisingly Sandeep is a keen photographer.
