 The Adyar Cancer Institute, one of the pioneer Cancer care institutes in India, celebrated its annual Survivor’s Reunion Day on 10-Jun-2012.
We, from the Friends of Max team in Chennai have been actively participating in this event all through these years and made our presence felt. The Doctors’ community at Adyar recognizes and appreciates all our efforts in creating cancer awareness and support. This year was all the more special as Adyar CI had requested Viji Venkatesh to give a motivational speech at the event.
The following FoM core team members assembled at the Adyar CI on 10-Jun around 2:30 PM – Nags, Sasi, Veda, Saravanan, Venkatesh, Soba and Bhaskar, Kannan, Ashwath, Selvam, Koutham, Maran, Sriram and Supraja.
FoM Chennai has been regularly putting up the stalls that feature our FAQ materials, Book of Stories apart from our banners and posters showcasing our activities. Like last time, this time too we had arranged for some games for the kids and gave some gift items (stationary material) as prizes for the kids who participated in the games. This has always been a crowd puller. Some of the Doctors too visited our stall.
After that the program had commenced which started with the welcome note by the Doctors at Adyar followed by speeches by the guests of honor who were eminent personalities who conquered Cancer...really liked the phrase “conquered cancer” gives a real high in terms of a sense of accomplishment
Thereafter, patients and Doctors from other cities participated through Videoconference. This was followed by Viji’s motivational speech. This had a lot of quotations from some of the pediatric cancer survivors.
Dr. Shantha, the chairperson of Adyar CI addressed the gathering and this was followed by the vote of thanks.
Some lip smacking snacks awaited us; still we waited to cheer for our local musician Koutham who rendered some melodious numbers through his Saxophone.
As always this was a very eventful day.
